Hi!

You can hold up while shooting to shoot upwards. This way you can remove the shield, which prevents you from climbing back up the tower, and get down on the other side.

Does this help?

Also... after this fight, you're supposed to be left on the bottom of the shaft.
If you weren't (for any reason), at least now you know.

Thanks, got some help from twitter and figured it out that way, already beat the final boss too... i guess i was so used to have the ray gun be associated only to the puzzles, thats why i hadn't tried it.
