December 13th is finally here, and Teslagrad is slowly but surely being released into the wild. For you discerning ladies and gentlemen, we have quite a few venues where you can make a purchase of the lovely Teslagrad.

First up of course, is our own website, where you will be purchasing it through the Humble-store, which also nets you a Steam key. You can also just buy it directly from Steam itself. Then there’s Desura, if you’ve been hanging with us since we first uploaded it there. And finally, GoG which is of course the choice for anyone who wishes for their games to be totally DRM free.

So far, we have enjoyed very positive reviews of Teslagrad, and we hope this will reflect how you all will find Teslagrad once it finds its way into your homes. Stay tuned for news on the console releases, coming in 2014!

Please enjoy Teslagrad, and happy holidays from everyone here at Rain!

Teslagrad release date announced!

Dear friends!

The time has come. After two years of hard work, it is time for yet another milestone moment. We’ve had several incredibly exciting moments during our journey towards the game’s release — the Greenlight race, releasing the official demo, our dialogues with Nintendo and Sony — and now, we are finally ready to release our dear game into the world.

Yes, that is right, the finished, full version of Teslagrad is coming to PC, Mac and Linux on the 13th of December, 2013, via Steam, Desura, and GamersGate!

I know! It’s so awesome! I can barely contain myself!

“But Marte!”, I hear you ask, “where is the Wii U version? Where is the PlayStation3 version?” Oh, dear friends, have no fear, it is coming! It will just take a little bit longer. In 2014, you will absolutely be able to get Teslagrad for both of these awesome platforms. So stay tuned for updates on the porting-front. We know you’re excited about it! We are as well, so don’t you worry a bit about that. We’re making good progress, so it will not be too far away.

So! December 13th! PC, Mac and Linux! Mark your calendars, friends, we’re almost there! And if that is just too far away, remember that you can download and play our awesome demo, right here, right now!

Stay tuned, and stay awesome, my friends!

Magnetic high fives from,

Marte, Eduardo and the rest of the Rain Team!

You done got Expo’d at Eurogamer 2013!

Dear friends!

We just flew in from the Eurogamer Expo 2013 and boy are our arms tired we had such a good time! And with this post, we just want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who stopped by the Indie Games Arcade and played Teslagrad. Your enthusiasm for the game was amazing to behold, and we really enjoyed talking to every single one of you who stopped by. Your feedback and response to the game was wonderful, and we were really impressed with the way you guys really showed that demo who’s boss. You were all great!

And of course, we have to give a mega high-five to our fellow Indie devs who stood there in the Arcade with us for all four days, and who all were showcasing some amazingly cool and creative games, created by some amazingly cool and creative people! We had a blast hanging out at Eurogamer with all of you, and we hope we’ll see you at more expos in the future.

And hey, if you went home after the expo and thought, “oh wow, I really want to download the Teslagrad demo and find the nine secrets!”, please tweet us at @rain_games and tell us all about it. Did you succeed? Are you stuck? If you are, maybe our forum is the place for you! You can chat with fellow players and even all of us!

In conclusion, we had a fantastic time! We talked to gamers, we talked to devs, we talked to journalists, we talked you YouTubers, we talked to execs, and we enjoyed it all. Hope to see you all again at the next expo!

We are officially Greenlit!

Our marathon has ended, and we made it without any grievous injuries. We have officially been included in the biggest batch of titles yet, bringing a record 100 titles through the darkness and into the green light.

The Rain Team would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of you who have voted for us, and been enthusiastic about Teslagrad throughout this entire process. We absolutely could not have done this without you, and we’re so glad you all like the game.

Now, we ask that you bear with us as we finalise the process and work our way towards the final official release, and also keep an eye out for the demo to pop up on Steam. In the mean time, feel free to check out the demo on Desura, and remember our speedrun contest that’s running until the 19th of September. And if you’ve played the demo, or you want some tips on how to achieve the most effective speedrun, stop by our forum and get some advice from the people who are fighting for the top spot right now.

Yay! Greenlight!

The Teslagrad demo is here!

Friends, the moment we have been waiting for is finally here. We are incredibly proud to present to you the first official playable demo of Teslagrad!

Download the demo from Desura here!

Take on the role of the Teslamancer in his quest to reveal the great injustice that caused him to be the last of his kind. Join him as his path takes him into the forbidden depths of Tesla Tower, defeat all challenges that stand in your way, and meet the first major adversary the Tower has to offer, the giant mechanical mega-muncher, Fernus.

Teslagrad offers the first glimpse into the completely original world of Chroma, with an emphasis on one of its four major civilisations, Elektropia. Delve deep into the history that lead to the nation’s current state as a society ruled by fear and a despotic king.

  • Innovative puzzle-solving using the power of magnetism and fully functional physics!
  • Exquisite hand-drawn 2D environments that shower you in atmosphere!
  • 100% visual storytelling with a sinister plot where you stand in the center of it all!
  • Explore the vast reaches of the Tower to discover even trickier puzzles and forgotten secrets!

That’s right! We’re hosting a competition! Do you think you can beat the demo with a time that will shock and amaze us? We think you can! And if you get the best time, you get to not only bask in the glory of your accomplishment, you can also also win a unique, lovingly awesome CD with Teslagrad’s Soundtrack by Jørn Lavoll. And with unique, we mean UNIQUE. Find out how!

I.- You are eligible for entry to the contest if you can beat the demo and find the 9 hidden secrets on a decent time, between August 19th and September 19th 23:59 CEST.
II.- No game loading allowed, the run has to be done in a single playthrough. You can die as many times you want (and most likely you will) but it’s not recommended either.
III.-There are 9 secret scrolls which must be found before reaching the end of the demo (which is the cutscene at the First Theater).
IV.- At the end of the demo a scoring screen is shown. It will show your time, the number of secrets found, and a unique code. Write down all this information as this is effectively your entry to the contest. An example is given below.

Please note: Due to an issue with print screen and Unity, print screening the end screen in full screen mode will likely not work. If you wish to take a screenshot, please do so in windowed mode or use a third party program, such as FRAPS.

V.- We encourage you to upload videos (YouTube) of your performance. We will really enjoy your attempts if you’d be kind enough to share them with us. Private videos are allowed, although we prefer to share our inspiring videos with the community. Let us know!
VI.- No glitches nor alterations to the game of any kind are accepted. Fair play, ladies and gentlemen.
VII.- The fastest time wins. In case there’s a draw, the result provable with a video will be the winner. (Hint: record videos!).
VIII.- Prize: A unique, Original Soundtrack of Teslagrad signed by the Rain Games team is waiting for the winner, as well as a digital copy of the game once it’s done.

Do the Wii U-dance.

Today yet another step in our journey has been completed, and we are pleased to announce that Teslagrad is coming to the Wii U! Yes indeed, folks, that brings us up to a total of five platforms, and our quest to give everyone a stellar gaming experience has taken yet another step in the right direction.

The Wii U offers many possibilities to do some nifty things, and while nothing is set in stone yet, we definitely are looking actively into how to best utilise that which the Wii U offers. Something like this, perhaps?

Our journey is not done, and as usual, our Greenlight submission is still plugging along. If you haven’t yet, please take a look and consider giving us your vote, and once again, we have to direct a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has followed us. We couldn’t have done this without you, and we appreciate your continued enthusiasm for Teslagrad in all its forms! Jubilations!

The sound of Teslagrad

A few weeks ago, I mentioned that our composer is busy cranking out some new tunes for us, and indeed, he has delivered. As you guys know, in a game with no text or voice acting, music is completely critical to set the mood properly. Tesla Tower is a desolate place, with danger lurking around every corner, and we need music to reflect that. Our dear composer has done a beautiful job.

Here are two pieces from his current compositions for your listening enjoyment.

What do you guys think?

Not just video games!

We don’t just make video games here at the Rain offices. Sometimes, we make things that help us make video games. This is very meta, indeed, but I’ll explain it to you.

As most of you are perhaps aware, we’re using Unity to develop Teslagrad. Unity is a pretty great engine in and of itself, but it also has a nifty thing called the Asset Store, where you can download everything from music to scripting packages. And now, you can also get Autotile, made by us!

autotileAs we all know, placing textures is super-boring. You’d rather spend your time making awesome levels and cool bosses. We understand. We feel the same way. Which is why we’ve developed this texture deployment plugin that is going to save you a lot of time when placing textures. All the time saved by using this plugin is time you can spend figuring out just much flame this dragon is going to breathe in phase three of this bossfight. Rad!

You can learn more about Autotile here, and we also have a handy-dandy tutorial available if you think this is something for you. There’s even videos! So if you’re a Unity user, feel free to check it out.

A Fright of Grues

We’ll be straight with you.

We like our mystique. Aight? Indiestatik recently called us “a curious enigma” (true story!) and we quite like the sound of that. But, we feel it’s time we reveal one of Tesla Tower’s darkest secrets. Ladies and gentlemen, the Grue.

This dude, right. This dude. Is it even a dude? We’re certainly not checking. The point is, this chompasaurus is ready to eat you if you get too close, so it’s certainly not advised to go head-to-head with these things as it’ll most likely result in you losing some vital limbs. But don’t despair, because while your glove might not be enough to put the Grue down, perhaps you’ll find something later on that will help you. At first, however, you will have to be content to run screaming in the other direction whenever you meet one.

Suitable upgrades.

So, do you guys remember that suit we were talking about a while back that would give you more awesome abilities?

Looks pretty rad, right? Just chillin’ in this ancient tower, And before you ask, no, the suit will become your size, not the other way around. You won’t actually get to stomp around Tesla Tower like some sort of steampunk Godzilla.

I’m sorry if that upsets you.
